Mackenzie Beck-Esmay is honored to serve as President of the 2018-2019 Hunter-Bellevue Student Nurses' Association (HBSNA). Last year, she worked as the HBSNA Treasurer, where she managed the budget and worked closely alongside the HBSNA President for all monthly meetings and events. As an executive officer, she gained a thorough understanding of the day to day tasks involved with maintaining HBSNA. While attending school, Mackenzie also works as a nursing attendant at New York Presbyterian Columbia Hospital, volunteers at Bellevue Hospital’s Emergency Department, and dances with Nyane Khosi Dance Theatre.
She is excited to have the privilege of continuing to serve HBSON nursing students and has many ideas for programs to implement and events to host in the 2018-2019 school year! Her goal is to help our community of student nurses get the most out of their education at HBSON, and assist student's in feeling prepared and confident starting their professional nursing careers. She would like students to know that her door is always open should they ever have requests for events, questions about the program, or anything else with which they may be in need of assistance. She truly enjoys the responsibility of serving her fellow classmates and is honored to help represent our strong and intelligent student body!

Alexis Terrero is a senior nursing student and is ecstatic to be serving as Vice President for the 2018-2019 school year! In the year prior she served as Community Health Director and is super excited and grateful to have the opportunity to continue representing such an amazing student body! Alexis cares very deeply about the impact our school and nursing students can and have made on our community. She looks forward to being your Vice President and continue working towards that cause, but also to ensure your voices and concerns are heard. Herself, along with the other members of HBSNA, are here to support you all and take initiative on things you may want to see happen or change. They are also here for any questions you may have and are always open to suggestions on ways to help support Hunter’s nursing students become the best nurses we can be! Treasurer: Riley Butler
[email protected] Riley Butler is very happy to have been elected as HBSNA Treasurer for the 2018-2019 school year! They are a junior generic student who enjoys photography and singing in their spare time. Riley’s hope is to eventually become a forensic nurse and help survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Currently, Riley works as a Nursing Attendant at NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia Hospital. They are very involved within HBSON, such as being co-chair of the Resolution Committee, alongside Katherine Kacherovsky. The tasks of this position, such as creating a budget and handling finances, seem daunting but they are ready to take on the challenge. As one of the junior class representatives, Riley has seen the inner workings of HBSNA, so they know they will be supported by the rest of the board members as they grow into their new role. They could not be more excited to become a team with the incredible people who make up the rest of the board! Riley’s hope is for us to support you all in any way we can and to create events that get everyone involved! Through this position, they will be able to give back even more to the amazing community that has helped them get through this program so far. |
Secretary: Katherine Kacherovsky

Katherine Kacherovsky is currently a junior at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing (HBSON) in New York City. Her interest in leadership and writing has led her to her nomination as Secretary of the HBSNA. In addition to her role as HBSNA Secretary, Katherine is also STAT Newsletter Editor of the Nursing Students' Association of New York State (NSANYS) 2018-2019, and co-chair of HBSON's Resolution Committee, alongside Riley Butler.
Katherine's interest in a variety of health topics, such as research, therapeutic techniques, humanitarianism, and psychology have guided her towards avid school involvement and volunteering.
As part of her role as Secretary, Katherine looks forward to working closely together with fellow HBSNA directors, and preparing opportunities for work experience, awareness, as well as de-stress events for the HBSON student body. She is honored to represent Hunter College nursing students, and is very excited to influence and engage students as they work hard towards their career goals.

Director of Professional Development: Aska Sherpa

Aska Sherpa is a senior nursing student at Hunter College and the current Director of Professional Development in HBSNA. She was born in Japan and raised in Nepal and India. She immigrated to the US four year ago with her two younger siblings. She is an active member in her community in Jackson Heights, Queens and is also the President of a youth organization called Network of Sherpa Students and Professionals. She is passionate about immigrant rights, women rights, and health equality both local and global. In her free time, she likes to volunteer, work out, try new vegan restaurants, and spend time with her family. In the future, she hopes to campaign and work for health equality and women reproductive rights in the developing world.

Director of Student Advocacy: Brianna Murillo

This is Brianna Murillo. She is currently 20 years old and will be graduating Hunter Bellevue in 2020! Ever since she started attending Hunter, she have always been very interested in being involved in the student community and putting herself out there to those in need of help. This is what she hopes to achieve as HBSNA’s Director of Student Advocacy, which is a position that revolves around conveying student problems and ensuring our voices are heard. She has quite a lot of experience with leadership. In high school, she was involved in several clubs like National Honor Society, Class Council, and National Art Honor Society. All of these clubs allowed her to get very involved with our community by organizing school events, charity fundraisers, decorating, and participating in town events. Also, Brianna is a Resident Assistant through Hunter. A major responsibility of this position is making herself available to her residents as much as possible. As an RA, she holds monthly meetings that allow residents to express concerns, organize mediation meetings for any residents that are fighting, and hold open door hours for residents to talk to her privately about anything. Overall, her goal is to extend these skills and opportunities to our nursing class and be there as a resource to anyone who needs support. She is excited for what the next few years of Nursing school has to come for us!

She is currently a volunteer at New York Presbyterian Hospital in the Emergency Department, a volunteer for New York Cares at soup kitchens and homeless shelters, and a member of Hunter Has Heart, a leadership program at Hunter that focuses on food advocacy and awareness. She has also held board positions in the past such as being the Vice President for Students for A Better World, a club that focused on participating in volunteer events within her community. She is excited to be HBSNA’s Communications Director this year and she hopes everyone has a successful school year!

Murielle Malouf is currently a junior in the HBSON generic program. Murielle hopes to become a maternity nurse. She was elected the Hunter Bellevue Student Nursing Association Community Health Director. She believes it is her duty as a student nurse to get her peers involved in helping out the community. She had many leadership roles that helped to prepare her for this position. She is a charismatic speaker, great at organizing large-scale events, and a knowledgeable decision maker. She will use her current position to aid neglected and disadvantaged communities. Murielle looks forward to creating a positive environment and working with her peers!
